Shy Taib to Admit to Bride on Jan 15th
Presumably, it will be on this occasion that the Chief Minister will finally announce the name, true age and identity of the lucky lady? Meanwhile, Sarawak Report feels obliged to issue previously unseen pictures that can prove to a bewildered public that the actual wedding has indeed already taken place and that Taib is indeed a married man once more.
Not the grandad but the groom
The couple, seen here in our exclusive picture, are both dressed in white, having just been married. We can confirm that the gentleman, who is somewhat dwarfed by his much younger new wife, is the groom and not an elderly relative.
It may seem ridiculous that the proven marital status of Sarawak’s Chief Minister has still failed to be formally announced. However perhaps the couple were in a hurry? Indeed, Taib’s failure so far to officially present and acknowledge his wife in the normal fashion has made it inevitable that people have been left speculating over the speed and secrecy of this event. Is a fifth potential heir to arrive for the lucky family sooner rather than later? Or was the lightning marriage designed to quash unhealthy rumours (or worse, evidence) of an existing relationship?
Poor PR?
Taib acts the paternal figure at another wedding of a lady older than his new wife today - the daugher of Jabu his deputy
Indeed, there have been numerous marital scandals associated with the Mahmud family, which Taib has fought hard to quash and there would be no desire to add to any of them on the brink of the election. So why such a grave mishandling of PR by Taib and BN by this displaying of all the hallmarks of an emergency wedding?
Worse, it has been followed by a lengthy period of silence with no official confirmation of the situation, giving the appearance that the actors in the affair have been working behind the scenes on how to best present the matter. A wedding should be treated as a public celebration and not a secret scandal, so why has the Chief Minister not managed the affair more skillfully to avoid such an unfortunate style of presentation?
In a country with a free press Taib would not have had a restful New Year’s break, after such a slack management of his PR. Yet, in fact it is understood that he and his young new wife were able to fly off on their holidays and enjoy another marriage ceremony nearer her home, in Syria in the Middle East.

Melanau..Minew Telou Agei Tudui!!!!
Najib jumpa MP BN, selidik peluang menang p'raya
Bukan 'one-way traffic'

Rakyat Strikes Back!!! Tolak RULE of THE JUNGLE!!
Taib Strikes Back!
Thursday, January 6th, 2011 GMT
BN and Sarawak’s Chief Minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud, have exhibited their concern about the growing tide of criticism engulfing their government by launching a series of lash-backs in the past 24 hours.
On Thursday night they utilised the police to arrest two groups of high-profile NGOs within a few hours of each other. Both groups were threatened with charges of possessing seditious material, but were eventually released.
The material concerned included discs containing recordings of the popular Radio Free Sarawak programme, which operates as an independent political voice in Malaysia without a Government licence, as well as clips from the alternative Sarawak TV, Bebas.
Nervous of legitimate criticism?
Sarawak Report can offer exclusive pictures of the police raid on the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (SADIA), which took place in Kota Sentosa, Kuching, in the early hours of the morning on Thursday. Plain clothes police, accompanied by
Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs (Kementerian Dalam Negeri – KDN) officials, ransacked the office and removed the discs and copying machines, along with some leaflets and posters. The offensive leaflets bore a compelling visual message – illustrating Sarawak as a milk cow and Taib Mahmud and Najib sitting beneath its udders and squeezing it dry!
The organisation’s Secretary General, Nicholas Mujah, and two associates were taken to the police station for questioning until after 3am before being released. Police also removed legitimate equipment from the office, yet it is believed that the group was eventually released without charges.
Parallel arrest in Miri
This raid in Kuching followed an earlier arrest at Miri airport of the respected NGO lawyer Abun Sui Anyit, who has fought a number of successful cases against the government’s seizure of Native Customary Rights Land on behalf of a number of local communities. He had just arrived from Kuching and is believed to have also been in possession of
CDs containing episodes of Radio Free Sarawak. Clearly the fact that the radio station is building a faithful and growing audience in the state has worried the incumbent Chief Minister. The station, which is broadcast on SW and is available also on the internet, is regularly highly critical of corruption and human rights abuses. It also frequently draws attention to land grab issues affecting native communities, who have had their lands ‘alienated’ under Taib’s amended land laws.
‘Yes it’s political’!
Abun Sui was informed by the arresting officers that he was being detained for “political reasons” and that he was likely to be charged under the Sedition Act of Malaysia (1948) for possessing ‘seditious’ material! But eventually the lawyer was released without charges, showing that the authorities’ jittery behaviour may not be as focussed and organised as their political masters might like.
Meanwhile, Chee See How, a lawyer working with the PKR leader Baru Bian, who is also a leading human rights lawyer in Sarawak, accompanied the SADIA personnel to the police station and they also were eventually released on police bail without charges.
This form of response to the recent criticism shows a level of intolerance towards freedom of speech (which the Government Minister James Masing himself recently defended in an interview with Radio Free Sarawak) that is troubling for the growing opposition movement in Sarawak. But such defensiveness also reveals deep worries within BN about the volume of dissent in the run up to the upcoming State Elections.
The government knows that to use such brute force in its attempts to curb criticism is in danger of back-firing, not least because of the large number of prominent lawyers who are prepared to defend those politicians and NGOs who are
supporting human rights cases against the hundreds of land grabs sponsored by Taib Mahmud and the BN administration. There is also the danger of attracting the international attention of the large number of NGOs, who are concerned by the escalation of environmental and human rights issues in Sarawak.
Will arrests back-fire?
So, Taib has flashed his claws. But, he will have to decide carefully what to do next and whether to continue this strategy of harrassment and arrests or to adopt a lower-key approach for fear of provoking even more bad publicity than he has been receiving already.
Radio Free Sarawak can be accessed at 1800-1900 on 15420 kHz (SW) and at 2000-2100 on 6205 kHz (SW) or via its podcast on www.radiofreesarawak.org.

There’s still chance to register for next polls
SPR Sarawak chief clerk Hasbi Sahri said the commission tried its best to process all applications received in view of the approaching state polls.
He lauded DAP for its constant efforts in helping to register new voters but said some political parties, including the ruling side, tended to submit applications late.
“Our registration is processed and done based on the date the applications are submitted, not the date applicants sign the form.
“Some political parties submit applications late and that is why people do not see their names in the system three months after they fill out the form,” he said when contacted here yesterday.
Hasbi said: “DAP is very fast in terms of new voters registration and change of address.”
He added that the commission had to reject half or more of the total applications submitted by some political parties due to incomplete details or mistakes in the form.
“For DAP, one out of 10 applications gets rejected but other parties may have 50 per cent or more rejected because of mistakes.”
He said it was not true that SPR had personal agenda when rejecting applications.
Hence, he advised applicants to make sure their forms were properly filled and with accurate details.
Among the reasons to reject applications are incompatible address, double registration, wrong identification number and wrong column filled.
He said everyone should be aware that temporary residents did not have the right to vote and applications from the dead would not be entertained.
Hasbi pointed out that it usually took three months to process applications.
In other words, those who register this month will get to see their record in the electoral roll by April.
If one did not find any name in the SPR database after three months, he or she must approach the commission for rectification, he said.
“Usually we do not have any problem registering new voters but if they do not provide accurate information, registration cannot be done,” he added.
At a news conference here yesterday, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong claimed that the commission lacked efficiency as 47 out of the total 132 applications submitted in June last year had been turned down.
In a breakdown, DAP Sarawak treasurer said, of the 47, one applicant came from Pending while Batu Lintang (11), Batu Kawah (12), Kota Sentosa (16) and other constituencies (7).
“By right, these 47 names should appear in the system in September or October last year but until now, they are still not in the record.
“Previously, we faced similar problems but this time, the number is big, 47. Is there any hanky panky going on? We do not expect any hiccups to stop the opposition from helping to register new voters,” added Yong.
Responding to her claims, Hasbi said the commission would look into the case.
He reiterated that SPR would not reject applications unreasonably.
He advised those who had submitted applications to check their status via website www.spr.gov.my (or click on www.spr.gov.my/eng for English version) as the commission was not responsible for any notification.
“If anyone has problem with his status, come to us. We will see things through,” he added.
SPR Sarawak can be contacted at 082-254867.

Mimpi Ngeri BN
by Pusuk.
Igauan ngeri Rakyat Sarawak bakal berubah.
HIDUP RAKYAT!!!!
Minew Telou Perlu Mengundi? (PENTING)
By Pusuk.
Jeminggu cuti, Pusuk pigek kesempatan itou bak mengucap Selamat Lau Ayeng Krismas gak sakai-sakai Kristian telou gahak Selamat Taun Baew gak semua likou Sarawak umumnya, likou Melanau khasnya. Nyadin diaklah mun belia Mukah kena bak pebak 5-10 masa bak membaca’ artikel itew.
Biasanya, bila Pusuk membawen a jemalai gak Mukah, kelou ngak mendaftar mengundi ka? Jawapan wak Pusuk trimak, 1)melou nda minat gak politik 2)parti inew pun nyadin perintah, sama un. Wak inew ji wak kena melou? Itou jelas menunjukkan belia Mukah nebei pahem tentang kepentingan pilihan raya ataupun memilek parti wak bak memerintah telou. Pusuk bak pejuah jalak contoh wak paling seneng. Kampung jenuah duit RM5000 bak menabaih kampung. Lalu bei la jemelai-jemelai penadak a menebaih.
